DENISE CALLAWAY
Many of you will remember Denise Callaway as the award-winning reporter for WTMJ-TV Channel 4. Denise has worked as a communications professional in Milwaukee for almost thirty years. Since 2003, she has been the director of communications for the Greater Milwaukee Foundation.
Denise is also active in the community, volunteering her time as Second Harvest of Wisconsin's Partnership Committee Member; Camps for Kids Committee Member; MPS North Division Advisory Council; National Coalition of 100 Black Women - Milwaukee; and the United States Colored Troops Institute. She is also very active in the community foundation field, serving as the past chair of CommA, the association of communications professionals for community foundations worldwide. An on-going special interest of Denise's is the preservation of the history and stories of African-American men and women who fought in the Civil War.
ENRIQUE FIGUEROA, Ph.D.
Enrique E. Figueroa is an associate professor and the director and chief executive officer of the Roberto Hernandez Center and the assistant to the Provost for Latino Affairs at UW-Milwaukee. He volunteers much of his time to the community through his board work, which includes UMOS, Inc., Center for Communication Hearing and Deafness, Cranberry Marketing Committee, and the Migrant Labor Coalition. Governor James Doyle, along with Senate confirmation, appointed Enrique to the Wisconsin’s Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection Board. The Governor also appointed him to the Wisconsin Migrant Labor Council.
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) of Washington DC chose Enrique as the 2008 recipient of the CHCI Medallion of Excellence, recognizing his work in the Hispanic Community.
Enrique holds an M.S. in Horticulture and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics. Under the Clinton administration, he held the position of deputy under secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
RAUL VASQUEZ
Raul Vasquez is an executive management team member at La Causa, Inc., a Milwaukee-based nonprofit focusing on education, child-abuse prevention, and social services for at-risk children. He manages grants, compliance, and special projects at La Causa. Raul has more than a decade’s worth of experience as a bilingual journalist. Most recently he was editor of Aquí Milwaukee Magazine, and before that he was a writer and photographer in the state of Washington and California, where he grew up.
Raul is also an active volunteer member of the Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee. He is an avid soccer fan and plays pick up games whenever he can at Milwaukee parks. He lives in Milwaukee with his wife Tatiana and their three young children.
