Mark your calendars!
It’s time to get the community out to explore our beautiful city!
This May, Milwaukee Turners is pleased to bring you Jane's Walk MKE for the fourth year. Jane’s Walks are free, resident-led neighborhood explorations and community-building events that embody urban activist Jane Jacob’s legacy through observing and discussing, educating and storytelling, and collectively reimagining and changing the places in which Milwaukeeans live, work and play. We envision a Milwaukee that has “the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when, [it is] created by everybody,” as Jane Jacob’s wrote in The Death and Life of Great American Cities.
Jane's Walk MKE celebrates our city, idea-making, and placemaking with walks, bikes, paddles, and transit tours. They can also be intended to motivate participation in making proactive changes to connect Milwaukeeans, improve urban infrastructure, and encourage civic engagement and activism. While the over 200 Jane’s Walks around the world traditionally take place during one weekend in May, there are so many walks that Jane’s Walk MKE will be hitting the streets the entire month of May!
We encourage members of Milwaukee Turners to join the mailing list, follow Jane’s Walk MKE on Facebook and Instagram, and consider signing up to lead their own walks. Whether you lead your own walk or not, stay tuned for a full line-up of walks and community-building events waiting for you. Finally, save the date for a fabulous kickoff event on the evening of Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at the Turner Hall Ballroom. You’ll have the chance to engage with your fellow residents in some fun and exciting new ways!
